Cool for A-Town
This place may be what passes for sophisticated in the AK-Rowdy, but it serves off-tasting coffee in a sterile bland atmosphere. The chairs and tables are uncomfortable and awkward. The men's room is ultra queeny (ugh!), and the crowd tends toward pretentious and "Oh, I'm so educated and better than the rest of this city." I'd rather go to Starbucks, and I'm not the biggest fan of Starbucks.
Too bright, too shiny
Really on the fem side, which is not bad if you are fem or like fems. But as a man I felt a little out of place surrounded by "sophisticated" gentlemen, as we used to say where I grew up. To be honest, I'd rather go to Starbucks.
I am often in this funky little place
It has a very casual atmosphere and you can sit and converse for hours. I usually meet new "buddies" here and am comfortable being myself. I don't drink coffee but the deserts are excellent.
A nice place for a gay-friendly afternoon
I used to study here when I attended Akron U. The coffee is OK, not the best (my personal favorite is Phoenix Coffee in Cleveland), but it is a reasonably comfortable and convenient place for a get together with friends or to check out the Highland Square gay crowd. They have a nice drink menu with many options and a lot of seating plus a counter that looks over Market Street. I prefer coffeehouses that are more on the funky, dark side, but for Akron, Angel Falls is a nice gay option that you should check out at least once if you usually go to Caribou or Starbucks.
